Meet The Face Behind Ann Arbour Consultants Inc.

I’m Sharmila Perera,  owner of Ann Arbour Consultants Inc. Even though a lot of you know me, I have not shared my story on how and why I started Ann Arbour Consultants Inc. 

Here is my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I immigrated to Canada in 2001, with my husband and three small kids. After having escaped a bomb attack, I decided I need to move to a place where it is safe to bring up my children. Fortunately, it was much easier to immigrate to Canada when I did than it is today. We applied under the professional category and got our visas in eight months. Having made a fresh start in this beautiful country, I wanted to provide the same opportunity to others who were looking for a safe and secure place for their family and a place to go professionally for themselves.  Hence I decided to pursue my studies in Immigration Law and Regulations and create the same dream I had for many others.

I started operations in my basement office with just one client inquiry.  Seventeen years later, I have two offices, eight employees, partners in different Provinces of Canada, and representatives outside Canada, working at five locations.

Through my work, I endeavor to show care and consideration for my clients. I believe that the success of Ann Arbour has primarily been that we “care.”  I ensure that “care” and empathy is what Ann Arbour is based on. We know all of our clients by name, we know the situations, and one of us is always available to assist. It is not easy to do this as our phones ring non-stop, and the emails keep pouring in – but we endeavor to be available to listen to our clients whenever they need us. it is our policy to work ethically, never to accept a client that is not eligible to apply, and to deliver our promises. We rejoice and celebrate each person’s visa issuance, and we take pride in making dreams come true.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is to hear the happiness in a client’s voice after they were approved for a visa. Be it that they are coming to get reconnected with family or landing to take up a job, the joy we see is just amazing, and it makes our difficult job so much more rewarding. It’s also exciting to watch my clients’ progress and grow in Canada by securing a prosperous job or starting a new enterprise. All these moments are precious and amazing  – almost like a mother watching her kids grow up and become wonderful and prosperous human beings. I treasure them all. Difficult days and difficult applications are made just a bit easier by remembering these precious moments.

When I’m not providing immigration consultancy, I am involved in so many other things. I am known to be a busy body. I need to be up doing things. My best moments are spent with my husband and three adults and grown-up kids and now with my precious grandbaby. What are my passions? Fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves and traveling. I love to experience the different cultures in different countries, read books, write articles, assist other business people to succeed and volunteer. My life is busy – but I always say – busy is good – it keeps me out of trouble.
